Choose travel destinations and homestays with AI? Don’t make this mistake while planning a trip

In today’s modern and high-tech digital era, every part of our lives is connected to Artificial Intelligence (AI). From morning alarm to night sleep, and from office work to trip planning, ChatGPT, Google Gemini and other AI tools are being used extensively everywhere. When it comes to traveling somewhere or planning a vacation, people can now ask AI in seconds, “I want to travel to a good place for 3 days, tell me the names of the best homestays and tourist spots” instead of going around the old travel agents. AI tools present a wonderful and long list in front of us in just a few seconds. But have you ever thought how dangerous it can be to rely too much on technology and choose popular spots or homestays suggested by AI without thinking?

AI tools mainly work on the basis of data available on the internet, blogs, social media reels and old ratings. When you ask AI what are the most famous tourist places in a city, it gives you the names that are trending the most on the internet. Due to this, AI sends you to those places which have already become victims of ‘over-tourism’. In such places, nothing is available except huge crowd, traffic jam, expensive hotels and filth. You leave home in search of peace and tranquility, but in the name of famous spots, all you see there is crowd of tourists and noise. Therefore, it can be costly to include any popular place in your travel list just on the advice of AI.

During trip planning, people often ask AI for a list of the cheapest or highest rated homestays. Many times AI suggests names of homestays or hotels whose data is very old or which increase their rating through fake positive reviews on the internet. When you reach the spot, you come to know that the homestay is either closed, or its location is in a very isolated and unsafe area, or in reality, as much beauty as was shown in the pictures, even basic facilities are not present there. AI never goes on the ground to check the current cleanliness or security of that hotel, so blindly trusting just the algorithm can spell trouble for your entire family.

This does not mean at all that you should stop using AI tools completely. AI is a great research assistant, provided you know how to ask it the right questions. Whenever you have AI plan a trip, give it clear instructions to suggest only “offbeat and quiet” places and not major tourist destinations. Check out Google Maps satellite imagery of places, read reviews from real travelers who have recently been there, and get local weather information by asking the AI. Use technology for your convenience, but always give priority to your discretion and ground research, only then your holiday will prove to be truly memorable and relaxing.
