Two days after NDA's seat distribution in Bihar, Chirag Paswan has made a big announcement. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan is going to contest elections from his father's traditional Hajipur seat. He announced this on Wednesday.
Hajipur means Ram Vilas Paswan?
It is noteworthy that Chirag Paswan's father late Ram Vilas Paswan has been MP from Hajipur seat 9 times. He entered politics in 1969. But when he set a record in Hajipur in 1977, the whole country heard his name. In the 1977 elections, Ram Vilas Paswan contested on Janata Party ticket. In that election he defeated the Congress candidate by a margin of 4.25 lakh votes. This was the first time that any leader had achieved such a big victory. This victory was so big that his name was also recorded in the Guinness Book.
Ram Vilas dominates Hajipur seat
After this, Ram Vilas Paswan came to dominate the Hajipur seat. He won all the elections from here except 1984 and 2009 elections. He has been MP from here 9 times. The last time Ram Vilas Paswan contested the Lok Sabha elections from here was in 2014. After this he went to Rajya Sabha. In 2019, his younger brother Pashupati Paras became MP from here.
Paswan's party got 5 seats
An agreement was reached on seat sharing between NDA and its constituent parties in Bihar. BJP general secretary and Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde along with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced seat sharing between JDU's Sanjay Jha and LJP(R)'s Raju Tiwari. BJP will contest on 17 seats in the state while Nitish Kumar led JDU will contest on 16 seats. Chirag Paswan RLSP will field its candidates on 5 seats. Upendra Kushwaha's party RLJD will contest on one seat and former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM party will contest on one seat.
