Washington: Chinese hackers, in collaboration with a third party software provider, have hacked data from various stations of the US Treasury Department. Now a thorough investigation is going on in this regard. Treasury Department spokesperson Aditi Hardkar gave this information to the Senate on Monday. He said that the investigation is still going on. But it has also come to light that this conspiracy has been going on for the last four years. However, only declassified documents have been ‘stolen’. It seems certain that the hackers could not access the confidential documents.
Aditi Hardikar further said that the incident of hacking by China came to light in 2014. Since then, as China has tightened cybersecurity, the Treasury Department was hacked by a third-party software provider.
He also clarified that security has now been tightened but declined to provide further details.
