Araria, 16 December (Hindustan Reporter). Smuggling of Chinese garlic and popcorn from Nepal to India has increased these days. On October 17, 148 kg of Chinese garlic was seized from Jogbani Haat and handed over to Forbesganj Customs. The same was sent to India near Road Shesh Chowk in Viratnagar, Nepal. While leaving, 375 kg of Chinese garlic was seized by Nepal Police. It is reported that smugglers are continuously sending small consignments to Indian areas with the help of carriers through open border farms and barns.
Security officials also agree with the fact that smuggling gangs operating in the border areas are taking advantage of the decline in garlic production in various states of India this year by procuring garlic from third countries and sending it to India. According to Nepal Bhansar Office, till October 2024 of this current economic year, garlic worth Rs 3 billion 13 crore 71 lakh has been imported into Nepal, whereas till the same period last year, 3 thousand 89 tonnes of garlic worth Rs 39 crore 63 lakh has been imported from China. Happened in. In the same period of the financial year 2020-21, 215 tonnes of Chinese garlic worth Rs 31 crore 78 lakh was imported into Nepal. The above facts show that the consumption of garlic imported from third countries in Nepal has increased unexpectedly, which cannot be ruled out with the intention of consuming it in the border markets.
Jogbani SSB camp in-charge Pashupati Kumar Singh said that the SSB is very alert at the main point. Every person coming and going from Nepal is thoroughly checked. If such activity happens from the border, action will be taken against it.
