Shenzhen, April 26 (Hindustan Reporter) Olympic champion Wang Shun won the men's 200m medley title at the China National Swimming Championships here on Thursday, qualifying for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
The 30-year-old won in one minute and 55.35 seconds, surpassing the Olympic qualifying time. Zhang Zhanshuo came second and He Yubo came third.
“I am satisfied with the result,” Wang was quoted as saying by Xinhua after the victory. “Hopefully I can set an example for Chinese swimmers over the age of 30 that we can still be competitive at the Olympics.”
Wang has previously competed in the three Olympics in London, Rio and Tokyo, and Paris will be his fourth.
“I hope I can be more relaxed this time and achieve better results,” Wang said.
Meanwhile, Pan Zhanle won the men's 50 meter freestyle in 22.06 seconds and won his sixth gold medal in this event. National record holder Yu Hexin got silver and Shen Jiahao got bronze.
In the women's 200 m backstroke final, Peng Xuewei won the gold medal in 2 minutes 07.57 seconds, followed by Liu Yaxin in second and Zhang Jingyan in third.
