China's big action against the scientist who made the first Covid vaccine, dismissed from Parliament on corruption charges – News India Live

Beijing: The scientist who developed the first vaccine during the Corona epidemic in China has been expelled from Parliament on corruption charges. Yang Xiaoming, chairman of China National Biotech Group (CNBG), the vaccine subsidiary of China National Pharmaceutical Group, has been removed from membership of the National People's Congress (NPC) for serious disciplinary and law violations.

China's first vaccine

Yang, 62, is an experienced researcher. He led the team at CNBG that developed Sinopharm's BbIBP-CorV vaccine. It was China's first vaccine approved for general use. Yang was also honored with a national award for this achievement in September 2020.

China's biggest action on Yang's dismissal

Yang's dismissal comes amid the biggest crackdown on China's healthcare system, an extension of an anti-corruption campaign launched by President Xi Jinping over the past few years. Its objective is to root out widespread corruption in the corrupt system. Hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and insurance funds are being continuously harassed. Dozens of hospital heads have been detained since last year.
