India-China border: China has maintained its essential military presence along the LAC with India since the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020. Despite the withdrawal of some troops in some areas, China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has not reduced its position or numbers. This has been revealed in the Pentagon report.

The report said, ‘The PLA has not reduced its position or troop numbers since the 2020 conflict. Infrastructure and support facilities have been created to sustain the deployment of multiple brigades along the LAC.

More than one lakh soldiers deployed on LAC

According to the Pentagon’s annual estimate, China has deployed around 1,20,000 troops along the 3,488 km long LAC stretching from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. In addition to troops, the PLA has deployed advanced military equipment, including tanks, howitzers, surface-to-air missiles and other heavy military weapon systems. More than 20 combined arms brigades (CABs) are deployed at key locations in the western, central and eastern sectors of the LAC.

China has gathered strength on LAC

The Pentagon report further said, ‘China’s Western Theater Command, which monitors the border with India, is prioritizing its border security with India. In recent years, there has been some friction between India and China due to differing perceptions of border demarcation, deployment of military forces and infrastructure for the military.’ “Despite some CABs returning to their bases, there are more troops deployed there than required,” the source said. Which shows that China has deployed in this area.
