Beijing/Washington, December 04 (HS). China has responded to the United States in a ‘tit-for-tat’ style. China banned rare mineral exports to the US. A day before this, the administration of US President Biden had extended the ban on the sale of advanced American technology to China. According to The New York Times report, China said on Tuesday that it will ban the export of many rare minerals to the United States. Is imposing restrictions. China’s Commerce Ministry said sales of gallium, germanium, antimony and superhard materials to the United States were being stopped immediately. Even if graphite will be exported, it will be after strict review. This confrontation between the world’s two superpowers has increased the possibility of major changes in the global scenario. America’s newly elected President Donald J. Trump has already promised a tougher policy. He has announced to impose heavy tariffs on goods coming from China. These sanctions by America and China are indicating more economic conflict with Trump’s entry into the White House.

China produces almost all of the world’s supply of critical minerals needed to make advanced technology such as semiconductors. Beijing also last year developed a legal framework to control exports of gallium and germanium, used in semiconductors. The US Commerce Department has expanded the list of Chinese technology companies subject to export restrictions, adding a new 140 firms. These companies make computer chips, chip-making equipment, and equipment used to create software. All companies are based in China. The list also includes Chinese-owned businesses in Japan, South Korea and Singapore. China has opposed this. China has also banned the export of dual-use items related to gallium, germanium, antimony and superhard materials to the US. The Chinese Commerce Ministry said that these export restrictions will take effect from Tuesday. It also requires stricter end-user and end-use reviews for graphite dual-use goods shipped to the US.
