Gwadar first came into limelight in the 1950s. At that time the ruler of Oman offered to sell this small fishing island. This proposal was first made to India, but the then Indian government rejected this proposal.
Gwadar airport to start operations from January 1, 2025
China has gained considerable influence in the Arabian Sea. Along with airlines, China has also prepared an international airport in Gwadar. It is being said that the construction of this international airport will strengthen Pakistan’s intentions. Gwadar Airport will commence operations from January 1, 2025. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif called the airport a gift to China. He acknowledged its importance as a flagship project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The airport is a key part of a $246 million (about Rs 2,000 crore) infrastructure investment designed to improve regional connectivity and promote economic integration.
Domestic and international flights will be operated
The airport’s strategic location on the south-west coast of Balochistan, 14 km north of the city, makes it a hub for global trade. Gwadar’s new status as an international gateway will enhance its role in CPEC, making it an important trade hub connecting Central Asia, the Middle East and beyond. One of the largest airports in Pakistan, it will handle domestic and international flights, positioning it as a key element in Pakistan’s broader economic development. Let us tell you that Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang had inaugurated Gwadar Airport online in October this year. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was also present at the inauguration. Gwadar first came into limelight in the 1950s. At that time the ruler of Oman offered to sell this small fishing island. This proposal was first made to India, but the then Indian government rejected this proposal.
