Gwalior, 21 April (HS). Collector Ruchika Chauhan said that child marriage is a social evil. To prevent this, there is an urgent need to create awareness in the society along with legal provisions. In case of child marriage, not only the parents but also the marriage garden, Pandit, Maulvi, parents, relatives, neighbours, bandwalas, tentwalas and caterers also come under the category of crime. Action will be taken on these also.
Under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006, a review meeting was organized in the district on Sunday to prevent child marriage. District Panchayat CEO Vivek Kumar, ADM Anju Arun Kumar, all sub-divisional revenue officers, District Panchayat CEO and officials of Women and Child Development Department were present in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Collector Ruchika Chauhan.
The Collector said that to stop child marriage, Child Marriage Prohibition Officers have been appointed at the district, tehsil and development block level. Collector and Chief Executive Officer at the district level, District Panchayat, Sub-Divisional Officer at Tehsil level, Revenue and Executive Officer at the development block level, District Panchayat and Project Officer for Women and Child Development are included. He also told that regarding child marriage, any citizen of the district can inform the Police Department, Child Marriage Prohibition Officer, Child Welfare Committee, Child Line 1098.
In the meeting, DS Jadaun, District Program Officer, Women and Child Development Department told that there has been a decline in the figures of child marriage in the district. According to NFHS-5 data, child marriage of girls in the district has decreased by about 12 percent.
