Chief Minister participated in the 29th Foundation Day of NEDFI

Guwahati, August 9 (HS). Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFI) in collaboration with the Government of Assam can promote women empowerment in the state through micro credit facilities and create more entrepreneurship.

Addressing the 29th Foundation Day celebrations of NEDFI at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that NEDFI can support the State Government’s initiative of providing business opportunities to women working in self-help groups through the Chief Minister Mahila Udyamita Yojana.

He said that under the first phase of Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Yojana, the government will give an amount of Rs 10 thousand to the women beneficiaries as initial fund in the first year. This initial fund will be used to fulfill the objective of the business enterprise initiative. In the second phase of the scheme, the successful women entrepreneur will get an amount of Rs 25 thousand in the second year. Out of this amount, Rs 12 thousand 500 will be given as bank loan and the remaining amount will be given by the state government.

He said that NEDFI can partner with the government in providing loan amount to the beneficiaries. Hence, he requested the NEDFI officials to read each component of the Women Entrepreneurship Scheme carefully, so as to align it with the scheme.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma thanked NEDFI for its role in assisting micro, small and medium enterprises for setting up industrial and infrastructure projects in the Northeast. He said that over the years, NEDFI has been a vital force in providing quick and hassle-free loans to entrepreneurs, helping them become self-reliant.

NEDFI has been a force in strengthening micro, small and medium enterprises over the past several years. He also expressed hope that in the coming years, NEDFI will make extra efforts to increase the volume of business generated from entrepreneurship in the sector.

On the occasion, the chief minister also honoured Padmashree award winner Sarveshwar Basumatary from Assam and Moirangthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur.

Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, NEDFI CMD PVSLN Murthy and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
