Chennai, September 26 (HS). Chennaiyin FC will play their first home match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 against Mohammedan SC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here this evening. Marina Machans registered a sensational 3-2 win over Odisha FC in their opening away match of the season, while Mohammedan SC drew 1-1 with FC Goa to register their first point in the ISL.
Chennaiyin FC will be happy to be back home as they have won five of their last seven matches at home. A positive home performance helped them make it to the playoffs last season.
Mohammedan SC will be playing their first away match in the ISL. Mohammedan SC took 15 shots from inside the 18-yard box in their second ISL match. The Black Panthers' tendency to score inside the opposition box will trouble the Chennaiyin FC defence.
According to Scottish head coach Owen Coyle, Chennaiyin FC's aim is to get full three points from every match wherever they play. “The team maintains the mentality and concentration that I talk about. Seven of our first ten matches are away from home. So, whether home or away, we play to win,” he said.
Mohammedan SC's Russian head coach Andrei Chernyshov expressed pride in the spirit of his players. He hopes they will continue to work on their physical strength to be well prepared for the upcoming matches.
Chernyshov said, “My players are playing great football and have made their presence felt in the ISL with confidence. But now we don't have enough time. We have to play away matches now. We will continue to work on physical strength.”
