Hamirpur, 9 September (HS). The use of chemical fertilizers in Bundelkhand is deteriorating the health of agriculture. The consumption of hundreds of MT of fertilizers every year in agriculture is now having a major impact on the ground water level, due to which Bundelkhand may come to the brink of a situation like Punjab in the coming times. Due to the continuous deterioration in the fertility of the fields, the senior officers of the department are now worried. An officer of the Ground Water Commission says that if the use of chemical fertilizers is not controlled, then agriculture here will become barren.
Lakhs of farmers do farming in Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda and Chitrakoot and other nearby areas of Bundelkhand's Chitrakoot Dham Banda Mandal. Every year, farmers use dangerous chemical fertilizers in Kharif and Rabi crops in lakhs of hectares of area. Due to the excessive use of fertilizers in the fields for the last several decades, the health of the soil has started deteriorating. The situation is such that a large area in many areas of Bundelkhand has become barren. In the pursuit of earning huge profits in farming, the farmers here have themselves become enemies of the fields.
To increase the yield of Kharif and Rabi crops, a huge crowd of farmers gathers in the fertilizer shops to buy fertilizers. Farmers buy thousands of MT of fertilizers from government fertilizer shops, while farmers also buy urea, nitrogen and other fertilizers from private shops and use them in the fields. Due to continuous use of chemical fertilizers in the fields, its results are now becoming frightening. Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Department Surendra Dwivedi said that this year two and a half thousand MT of urea and two thousand MT of DAP fertilizer have been consumed in the crops, whereas last year eighteen hundred MT of urea and one and a half thousand MT of DAP fertilizer were consumed. Currently, a demand of three thousand MT of urea and thirty two hundred MT of DAP fertilizer has been made from the government.
Due to consumption of 50% chemical fertilizers, ground water is also getting polluted
Due to the continuous increase in the amount of chemical fertilizers on crops, the ground water is also getting polluted. This has raised concerns among the senior officers of the department. Executive Engineer of Ground Water Department SK Rai said that the government is giving a huge budget to promote organic farming along with natural farming in Bundelkhand, but the farmers here are still putting chemical fertilizers in the fields for huge profits. Due to which the fertilizer after getting mixed in the soil is going underground and leaving a bad effect. Due to which the beneficial minerals of ground water are getting destroyed. This same water is causing many diseases in the body. This has also come to light in investigation.

Executive Engineer of Ground Water Department told that farmers in Punjab used to grow crops by using chemical fertilizers due to which the farming there has become infertile. Now people are demanding rice from UP instead of rice from Punjab. He told that if the excessive use of chemical fertilizers is not stopped then in the coming time Bundelkhand will also come to the brink of a situation like Punjab. Deputy Director Agriculture Harishankar Bhargava told that to increase the fertility of the crops, farmers should use cow dung manure in crops instead of chemical fertilizers. He told that before chemical fertilizers, the health of the soil of the field will improve only by organic farming.
