Regarding the Chardham Yatra starting from May 10, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India and the State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) Uttarakhand have intensified the efforts for the smooth conduct of the Yatra. On April 30, preparedness to deal with disaster will be tested through a table top exercise.
For the successful conduct of Chardham Yatra, a table top exercise will be conducted by NDMA on 30th April from 9.30 am to 4 pm in the Chief Secretary Auditorium located at Dehradun Secretariat. After this, a mock exercise will be held on May 2 from 9:30 am to 4 pm in the Control Room, State Emergency Operation Center, Secretariat Complex, Dehradun.
Objectives of Table Top Exercises and Mock Exercises
Major General Sudhir Bahal, Senior Advisor, National Disaster Management Authority, explained the objectives of the table top exercise and mock exercise. He said that in the successful conduct of the Yatra, departments like Disaster Management Authority, District Administration, Indian Army, ITBP, Police, Central Armed Police Forces, Public Works Department, GMVN, Forest, Tourism, Information and Public Relations Department, Devasthanam Board etc. play an important role. Will happen. There should be better coordination between all departments in case of emergency. Table top exercises and mock exercises are being organized for this purpose.
How to do relief and rescue work during disasters, understand the nuances
Senior advisor of NDMA told how all the departments will do relief and rescue work during disasters like bad weather, floods and landslides, earthquakes, fires, avalanches, snowfall, heavy rains, helicopter and road accidents, stampedes etc. Its preparation will be tested by doing mock exercises. If any technical or other problem arises, it will be resolved immediately. He said that in an emergency, the role of IRS i.e. Incident Response System will be important.
