Change in Weather in Maharashtra: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in many areas of Maharashtra in the next four days, as well as the seasonal pattern developing in the Arabian Sea is likely to cause thunderstorms and strong winds. According to the Regional Meteorological Center in Mumbai, there is a possibility of a cyclonic circulation on the East-Central Arabian Sea, away from the Karnataka coast. This system will probably turn into a low pressure area by 22 May and may be strong when it moves north.
IMD meteorologist Shubhangi Bhute said, “The effect of cyclonic winds is expected to intensify rain activities in Maharashtra between May 21 and May 24.” He further said that areas like South Konkan, South-Central Maharashtra and Mumbai will be affected.
Bhutte said, “Thunderstorms are expected to receive heavy rainfall at different places. The affected areas may blow strong winds at 30-40 km/h or possibly even more.”
People and local administration have been asked to be vigilant as the weather is likely to remain unstable for the next few days. The IMD has also asked fishermen and coastal residents to be vigilant as the position of the sea may be risky.
As the low pressure system gets deeper, upcoming updates will be provided.
