Guwahati, 14 December (Hindustan Reporter). Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Golaghat district today as part of the “12 Days of Development” initiative that started from December 11. The objective of this initiative is to accelerate the development of the state and give priority to the welfare of the people. On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed benefits of several important schemes, including No Due Certificates to beneficiaries under Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme (Phase III, Category II), Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to flood affected families of 2024, and Prime Minister Seed capital was provided to self-help groups under the Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises scheme.
Dr. Sarma said that under the third phase of the microfinance scheme, loans of 5,119 women loan holders of Golaghat have been waived off. Additionally, financial assistance was provided to 2,011 flood-affected families in the district, with Bokakhat being the most affected area. 1,970 families suffered losses here. Under PMFME scheme, seed capital was provided to 189 self-help groups of Golaghat.
The Chief Minister said that the “12 Days of Development” initiative is a comprehensive effort of the state government aimed at reaching out to the people in every corner of Assam and solving their problems. He informed that six major schemes are being implemented during this initiative, out of which three are for students and three for mothers. Honors like Dr. Banikant Kakati and Anandram Baruva awards have been started for students. Also, bicycles are being distributed to the students of class nine.
The Chief Minister said that his government has ensured transparency in government recruitments. He said that the youth qualified in the examinations conducted by Assam Public Service Commission are getting jobs on the basis of their merit. This has increased the interest of youth towards education in the state.
Referring to the infrastructure development plans, he said that a tunnel road project will be started from Numligarh to Gahpur, which is estimated to cost Rs 12,000 crore. Apart from this, schemes for construction of bridges, medical colleges and universities on the Brahmaputra river are also being given priority.
Dr. Sarma said that under the Assam Chief Minister Entrepreneurship Scheme, women of self-help groups are being given financial assistance of Rs 10,000, which will be increased to Rs 15,000 next year. Along with this, 1.5 lakh women will be benefited under ration card distribution and “Arunodaya Yojana”.
Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, MLA Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Biswajit Phukan, Mrinal Saikia and other dignitaries were present in this program.
The Chief Minister also inspected the construction works of Deputy Commissioner Office, Medical College and Cancer Hospital of Golaghat. He directed to complete Golaghat Medical College and Hospital, which is being built at a cost of Rs 582 crore, by mid-2026. Earlier, the Chief Minister started his day by planting a pine tree at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, Dergaon.
