Kolkata, 09 November (HS). Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's great grandson Chandra Kumar Bose has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appealing to bring Netaji's 'relics' from Renkoji Temple in Japan to India. He urged that this step should be taken before Netaji's birth anniversary on January 23.

Chandra Kumar Bose said that Netaji's 'remains' are still lying in the Renkoji temple in Japan, which is against his honour. He also requested the Prime Minister to build a memorial in the memory of Netaji on the duty path in Delhi. He wrote that Netaji wanted to return to independent India, but on 18 August 1945, he sacrificed his life while fighting for India's independence. It is unbearable for his remains to lie in a foreign land.

Bose appreciated that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the initiative to make public the documents related to Netaji, which brought clarity on many aspects of history. He said that on the basis of various investigations and documents it is clear that Netaji died on August 18, 1945. He urged that a final statement should be given by the government on this subject so that the false notions being spread about Netaji can be put to an end.

He told that in 1956, a three-member committee was formed under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, which was headed by INA fighter General Shah Nawaz Khan. The report recorded statements of several eyewitnesses to Netaji's death, including his Indian adjutant, Colonel Habib Ur Rahman, who survived the plane crash.

The Khosla Commission constituted at the government level in 1974 also accepted the report of the Shah Nawaz Committee. Although the Justice Mukherjee Commission constituted in 2005 had said that Netaji did not die in a plane crash, the report was found to be based on several fundamental errors, due to which the government rejected it.

Chandra Kumar Bose said that now the time has come that Netaji's 'remains' should be brought to India and he should be given due respect.
