Pakistan batsman Sam Ayub has got his ankle injury checked by an orthopedic surgeon in London, but it will be clear only after a week whether he will be able to play next month’s Champions Trophy or not. Sam has been seen by renowned London ortho surgeons, Dr David Redfern and Dr Lucky Jeyaseelan.

According to sources close to Sam, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants him to be fit for the match against India in Dubai on February 23. The source said, “If the doctors say that he will not be fit for Pakistan’s first match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy on February 19, but will be fit for the match against India, then the selectors and the PCB are willing to take the risk. “

The match between India and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy will be played on 23 February. The PCB will receive the experts’ report by next week, but the initial checkup has ruled out the need for any surgery. Sam suffered an ankle injury on the first day of the second Test against South Africa last week and has been advised six weeks’ rest.

Sources close to the national selectors said that considering Sam’s form in recent months and his excellent performance in 50-over cricket as an opening batsman, the selectors believe that he should be in the initial squad despite the injury.
