Hooghly, July 27 (HS). Hooghly district's Champdani Municipality in association with the non-governmental organization Ganga Mission is running a massive tree plantation campaign in the municipal area these days. In this sequence, hundreds of saplings were distributed among the local people by organizing a program in the Chandanpada Club ground of Champdani on Saturday. Champdani Municipality Chairman Suresh Mishra, Ganga Mission National Secretary Prahlad Rai Goenka and many councilors and dignitaries participated in the program. All the dignitaries seated on the stage told the people present about the importance of plants in the present times and encouraged tree plantation. Suresh Mishra said that trees are like our ancestors. My father had planted hundreds of trees in our garden. Whenever I stand in their shade, I feel that I am standing in my father's shadow.
He appealed to the people that everyone should plant a sapling. When the sapling grows into a tree, it will become the identity of that person. His future generations will remember him through that tree. National Secretary of Ganga Mission Prahlad Rai Goenka, who came to participate in the program, said that for the last ten years he has been planting around one lakh saplings every year. The way the water level is going down today, the way the heat is increasing, in such a situation there is no option other than tree plantation. Everyone should plant a tree and also take care of it till it grows. Only if the environment is protected, we will also be protected.
After the conclusion of the program, Champdani Nagar Palika Chairman Suresh Mishra, Ganga Mission National Secretary Prahlad Rai Goenka and others planted trees in the nearby field and pledged to save those trees. Goenka said that he has donated 3000 saplings in Champdani.
