Champawat Police caught absconding rape accused in an encounter, illegal weapons recovered | News India

Champawat, September 14 (HS). Champawat police has arrested a rape accused Nepali citizen who had escaped from Lohaghat jail after an encounter. An illegal country-made pistol, a live cartridge and two empty cartridges have been recovered from the accused. A case has been registered in Reeth Sahib police station against the accused for firing on the police team and possessing illegal weapons.

Shankar Lal Chaudhary (32), resident of village Dharmapur, police station Sisayya, Mahendranagar, district Kanchanpur Nepal was booked under section 64 of Indian Penal Code on August 27 for raping a woman at Chalthi Chowki under Champawat Kotwali area. He was kept in Lohaghat judicial prison under the court order, but he escaped on September 12. After this incident, a case was registered under section 262 of BNS in Lohaghat prison on September 12.

According to Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganpati, after intensive checking and search operation, the accused was caught in Binwalgaon forest area on 13th September by the team of Reethasahib Police Station Head Kamlesh Bhatt. Before the arrest, the accused opened fire on the police, to which the police responded and caught the accused.

A case has also been registered against the accused under section 109 of BNS and 3/25 Arms Act. Sub-inspector Tej Kumar, head constable Rajendra Prasad, Deepak Bisht, Harish Nath, constable Manoj Kumar were involved in this action.
