Ranchi, August 9 (HS). Expressing displeasure over the proposal of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited to increase the electricity tariff as well as the load based fixed charge, Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce termed it impractical. Chamber President Kishore Mantri said that Jharkhand Electricity Regulatory Commission had announced the electricity tariff for the financial year (2023-24) in February 2024 itself, which has come into effect from March 1, 2024, now the decision to increase the tariff again for the current financial year has worried the common people apart from the business and industry world. In the present perspective, the increase in electricity tariff is unfair and the people of the state will be affected by it.
In a letter to the Jharkhand State Regulatory Commission Chairman and Energy Secretary, it was said that it is a reality that despite the increase in electricity tariff every year, JBVNL does not provide quality and uninterrupted electricity to the consumers. The years-old trend of power cuts is still continuing in all the districts of the state, why not, like the increase in electricity tariff, efforts are made by JBVNL to provide quality electricity. It was requested that until JBVNL is not able to supply quality and quantity electricity to its consumers, the proposal of this tariff increase should be kept on hold.
