New Delhi, September 07 (HS). The central government has notified a uniform code of marketing practices for the medical device industry with the aim of curbing unethical practices. The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DOP) has asked the Medical Device Association to stop organizing workshops abroad for health professionals, offering them hotel stays or monetary grants.
“All associations must constitute an ethical committee for marketing practices in medical devices (ECMPMD) and upload it along with the detailed procedure for complaints on their websites, which will be linked with the Uniform Code for Marketing Practices (UCPMP) portal of the Department of Pharmaceuticals,” said the notification issued on Friday.
The DoP has also sought disclosures from medical device firms regarding distribution of evaluation samples and details related to expenses incurred on conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.
The DoP has asked medical device companies to upload the Uniform Code for Marketing Practices in Medical Devices (UCMPMD) 2024 on their website along with the detailed procedure for filing complaints with a link to the department's UCMPMD portal. Earlier this year, the department had notified the Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP) 2024.
