The Central Government has decided to build a memorial in the memory of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the national capital. This information has been given by the Union Home Ministry. The Home Ministry issued a press release saying that on Friday morning the government received a letter from Congress Party President, former Prime Minister, late Dr. Request received to allot space for Manmohan Singh’s memorial.
Dr. Manmohan Singh died on Thursday at the age of 92
Soon after the Cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah informed the family of Congress President Kharge and late Dr Manmohan Singh that the government will allot space for the memorial. During this time the last rites and other formalities can be completed, as the trust will have to be formed and space allotted for it.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, who led the Congress-led UPA government and was known for economic reforms, died on Thursday at the age of 92. He led the country as the Prime Minister of India for 10 years from 2004 to 2014.
Congress made these allegations
The Congress on Friday alleged that not deciding on a place for Manmohan Singh’s cremation and memorial was a deliberate insult to the country’s first Sikh Prime Minister. Congress raised the issue after the Union Home Ministry said in its statement that the last rites of Manmohan Singh will be performed with full state honors at 11:45 am on Saturday at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted on Friday and accused the central government of adopting a disrespectful attitude towards former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. He wrote, “This morning the Congress President wrote a letter to the Prime Minister proposing that Dr. Manmohan Singh be cremated at a place where a memorial can be built to honor his legacy.”
