During the ongoing farmers' movement on the Delhi border, the Modi government at the Center has given a big gift to the sugarcane farmers of the country. The government has decided to increase the purchase price of sugarcane. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that to ensure fair price of sugarcane to the farmers, sugar mills have decided to fix the price for the upcoming season in the period from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025. Under this, the price of sugarcane for 2024-25 has been fixed at Rs 340 per quintal. Last year it was Rs 315 per quintal.
The decision to increase the minimum price of sugarcane was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur informed about the cabinet's decision in the press conference. He said that keeping in mind the interests of sugarcane farmers, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has fixed the FRP at Rs 340 per quintal at the basic recovery rate of 10.25 percent. has been approved.
On the other hand, the Central Government said on Wednesday that 20 percent duty on export of raw rice will continue even after March 31. To maintain adequate storage locally and control domestic prices, export duty of 20 per cent was imposed on paddy rice from August 25, 2023 to October 16, 2023. However, later it was extended till March 31, 2024.
The Finance Ministry said in a notification that the 20 percent export duty will continue beyond March 31 without any time limit. Additionally, duty-free import of yellow peas will continue beyond March 31, provided the bill is issued on or before April 30, 2024.
