The central government has become alert after six cases of Zika virus were found in Maharashtra. The Union Health Ministry has issued an advisory for all states regarding Zika virus. Under this advisory, all states have been instructed to increase monitoring and testing of pregnant women in view of the risk of Zika virus infection.
Six cases of Zika virus have been reported in Pune, Maharashtra in the last 11 days. On July 1, two pregnant women were confirmed to be infected with the Zika virus. Due to this, the central government is taking precautions. Residential areas, schools, construction sites and various establishments are also called mosquito free to keep hospitals and health centers mosquito free.
Infection is more dangerous for pregnant women
Like dengue and chikungunya, Zika virus infection is also a disease spread by Aedes mosquitoes. Most people infected with this disease do not know that they are infected with Zika virus, because the symptoms of this virus are very mild. The brain of the baby growing in the womb of a pregnant woman infected with this virus is not fully developed and the size of its head is smaller than normal.
Symptoms of Zika Virus Infection
People infected with Zika virus have symptoms such as headache, joint pain, skin rash and red eyelids, redness of the white part of the eyes and muscle pain.
