The participation of women soldiers in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is to increase. The Central Government has approved the formation of the first all-women reserve battalion with more than 1,000 personnel.
This decision has been taken in view of the increasing requirement of CISF personnel on duty at airports and other important units. According to officials, the reserve battalion will be created from the already approved strength of two lakh personnel. There will be 1,025 women soldiers in the reserve battalion. It will be headed by a senior Commandant level officer. In this regard, the Union Home Ministry has issued an approval order this week.
According to officials, CISF is responsible for the security of 68 airports in the country including Delhi Metro, Red Fort and Taj Mahal. A large number of women soldiers are needed here. For this, a proposal was given to the government to form an all-women reserve battalion.
