Srinagar, 2 December (HIST). National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Monday said the Center should stop activities creating communal tension in the country and treat Muslims equally.
Talking to reporters here, Abdullah said that there is a need to stop incidents like Sambhal. I would ask the Indian government to stop such actions because the Muslims of India cannot be thrown into the sea. Where will they throw 24 crore Muslims? He said that Muslims should be treated equally, this is what our Constitution says. How will India survive if they tamper with the Constitution?
He said that no one is against the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley. Who is stopping Kashmiri Pandits from coming back? Every political party has said that he should return. It is their decision as to when they want to return. Our hearts are open to them. He said that even when I was the Chief Minister, when the situation was bad, we tried to bring them back. On the demand for review of reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said that the government should review it. We will ask the government to review it. Reservation is for the deprived sections so that they can come forward equally.
The NC government has formed a cabinet sub-committee to consider demands for rationalizing the reservation which has increased to 70 per cent in the Union Territory. On previous Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha dismissing two government employees for terror links, Abdullah said the government will keep an eye on everything and find out why the two employees were dismissed. He said that this ceasefire is a very good step but it is necessary to stop the joint attacks being carried out by Israel and America in Gaza, Syria and Iran which are continuing even today. This is dangerous. They should immediately resort to ceasefire.
