Center extends tenure of Bengal Chief Secretary by three months

Kolkata, May 27 (HS). West Bengal Chief Secretary Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika has got a three-month extension. He will remain in this post till August. A source in the state secretariat gave this information on Monday. He said that the state government had applied for this which has been accepted by the central government. The extension has been approved.

Gopalika, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was to retire on Friday. The source said that after the approval of the Department of Personnel and Training, he will now continue as the Chief Secretary till August 31. He said, “Gopali will remain the Chief Secretary of the state till August 31. His tenure has been extended for three months.”

Gopalika took over as the Chief Secretary of West Bengal after H.K. Dwivedi retired on 31 December 2023. Earlier, he had been the Home Secretary of the state.
