Mumbai: A special court has issued a non-bailable warrant against fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya in the Rs 180 crore default case related to Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). On June 29, special CBI judge SP Naik Nimbalkar issued the warrant.
Considering the arguments of the CBI along with other non-bailable warrants issued and the status of the fugitive, the court said it was a fit case for issuing a non-bailable warrant to produce the businessman before the court.
The promoter of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines deliberately avoided paying Rs 180 crore to the government bank. The CBI has claimed a loss of over Rs 180 crore.
Mallya is currently in London and the Indian government is pursuing his extradition in a fraud case registered by the CBI for allegedly manipulating loans taken from the IOB to Kingfisher Airlines between 2007 and 2012.
