Cash for votes! Congress candidate publicly distributed money to people during election campaign, video went viral

Lok Sabha elections 2024 are just counting days away. All political parties are busy campaigning vigorously. Meanwhile, a case of giving money to people during election campaign has come to light in Tamil Nadu.

Congress candidate accused of giving money to people

Voting for all 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu is to be held in the first phase on April 19. Congress candidate Manickam Tagore, contesting from Virudhanagar seat in Madurai district of the state, has been accused of giving 'money' to people during the election campaign. An official said that these notes were distributed during the election campaign of Congress candidate Manickam Tagore from Virudhnagar seat for the Lok Sabha elections. In a video shared on social media, Manickam Tagore was allegedly seen giving money to attendees of an election campaign event in Vandananagar. Superintendent of Police BK Arvind said that the video of Congress candidate Manickam Tagore giving money in Madurai is real. Earlier on Wednesday, Tagore had addressed party supporters and local people during the election campaign in Madurai.

Voting will be held in the first phase on all seats in Tamil Nadu.

It is noteworthy that in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, voting will be held on all 39 seats of Tamil Nadu on April 19. In the 2019 general elections, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, including Congress, VCK, MDMK, CPI, CPI(M), IUML, MMK, KMDK, TVK and AIFB, won a landslide victory on 38 out of 39 seats. In 2019, DMK won 23 Lok Sabha seats with 33.2 percent vote share, Congress won 8 seats with 12.9 percent vote share and CPI won two seats in Tamil Nadu.
