Case registered against 3-year-old boy for electricity theft in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province

A shocking case has come to light from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. A case of electricity theft has been registered against a three-year-old child.

On complaints from Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), an FIR was lodged against the minor for his alleged involvement in electricity theft.

The minor was also brought to the court of the Additional Sessions Judge, where his legal representative claimed that the judge had dismissed the case after receiving the affidavit.

Furthermore, it was noted that WAPDA/PESCO officials expressed uncertainty about the child's connection with the alleged crime.

The incident follows a shocking revelation last month that power theft within power distribution companies (DISCOs) has reportedly caused a loss of Rs 438 billion to the national exchequer.

Sources revealed that these losses amounted to more than PKR 438 billion, a huge figure amid the total annual bill of PKR 723 billion.

Identified as the worst performing discos, the power division singled out companies from Hyderabad, Sukkur, Peshawar, Quetta and tribal areas for their dismal records.
