Geneva, 8 October (Hindustan Reporter). French football player Paul Pogba's four-year ban for anti-doping rule violations (ADRV) was reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday.

The Juventus midfielder filed an appeal against Italy's National Anti-Doping Tribunal's decision to commit him to an ADRV on February 28, 2024. He was sentenced to a four-year ban from September 11, 2023, and a fine of 5,000 euros.

CAS confirmed the ADRV but ruled that Pogba was not at fault, reducing his ban to 18 months and canceling his fine.

“The CAS panel based its decision on evidence and legal arguments which found that Pogba's consumption of DHEA (non-endogenous testosterone metabolites), the substance for which he tested positive, was not intentional,” CAS said in a statement. and was the result of him incorrectly taking supplements prescribed to him by a physician in Florida, despite Pogba being assured that the physician, who claimed to have treated several high-level American and international athletes, was knowledgeable. and will remain mindful of Pogba's anti-doping obligations under the World Anti-Doping Code.”

According to CAS, “The CAS panel found that Pogba was not blameless and that as a professional footballer he should have exercised greater caution in the circumstances.”
