Carlos Alcaraz reaches semi-finals of Argentina Open

Buenos Aires, February 17 (HS). Top-seeded Spain's Carlos Alcaraz reached the Argentina Open semi-finals with a 7-6 (1), 6-1 win over Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori on Friday. This match lasted for one hour 40 minutes.

World number two Alcaraz won 27 return points on the outdoor clay courts of the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

After the win, two-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz was quoted by ATP as saying, “I think Vavassori played at a high level in the first set. It was really difficult to return his serve and work in challenging conditions with the wind.”

The 20-year-old player said, “I think I played better in the second set. I think his level dropped a little bit, his serve got worse and I hit some returns, created chances and I think that was the difference.”

Alcaraz will face third-seeded Nicolas Jarry of Chile or sixth-seeded Tomas Martin Echeverri of Argentina for a place in the final.

Earlier, Argentina's Federico Coria and Facundo Diaz defeated Sebastian Baez and Dusan Lajovic respectively to book their place in the other semi-final.

Korea beat compatriot Baez 6-1, 6-4 and Diaz defeated Serbia's Lajovic 6-4, 6-3.
