Sometimes work stress and sometimes worry about the future do not let us sleep. We keep tossing and turning, looking at the clock and sleep is far away from us.

Many people start taking sleeping pills to get rid of this problem, which has very bad effects on the body in the long run. But do you know that there are some ‘switches’ or ‘points’ in our body, pressing which can help in getting sleep?

Yes, this is not magic, but the age-old technique of acupressure. According to acupressure, there are some special points in our body which are directly connected to our brain and nervous system. By applying slight pressure on these points, the body gets relaxed, stress is reduced and the process of falling asleep starts naturally.

Where is this ‘sleep button’?

There are many points suggested in acupressure for sleep, but some of the most effective and easiest points are:

1. Shen Men Point:
This point is located on your wrist. Turn your palm upwards. Come straight down to the crease (line) of the wrist in line with the little finger. Here you will feel a small crater. That’s the ‘Shen Main’ point.

  • What to do: Apply light pressure on this point with the thumb of your other hand for 1-2 minutes and slowly do a circular massage. Then do the same on the other hand also. Doing this before sleeping calms the mind.

2. Anmian Point:
This point is behind the neck and ears. The soft spot between the bone behind your ear (mastoid process) and the starting point of the neck muscle is called the ‘Anemian’ point.

  • What to do: Apply gentle pressure on this point with your index and middle finger for 10-15 minutes. It helps in relieving stress and inducing sleep by reducing headache.

3. San Yin Jiao (SP6) Point:
This point is on the inner side of your foot. This point is located four fingers above your ankle bone.

  • What to do: Apply deep pressure on this point with the thumb for 4-5 seconds. Repeat this process for 2-3 minutes. It reduces restlessness in the body and improves sleep quality. Note: Pregnant women should not press this point.

This technique is completely natural and has no side effects. Next time you can’t sleep in bed, instead of remembering the sleeping pills, try these ‘magical’ buttons of your body. You probably won’t find an easier and safer way to befriend sleep.
