After KGF Chapter 1 and KGF Chapter 2, the audience was desperate to see Yash in the same explosive avatar once again, but since its release, the film faced mixed and in many ways negative reviews from critics and cinema lovers. Yash had spent almost four years working hard day and night to bring this ambitious cinematic project to life. When the story of a grand film made on such a large scale failed to touch the hearts of the audience, it caused a deep emotional shock to the actor himself. Rocking star Yash, who looks like a rock on screen, is deeply hurt in real life due to the failure of his much-awaited film.
Famous Kannada actor Jaydev Mohan, one of Yash’s closest friends, has recently spoken openly on the unexpected failure of Toxic. Jaidev has not only lent his voice to the Kannada dubbing version of the film, but he has also been very close to Yash since the beginning of the project. In an exclusive interview with a leading media outlet Prajavani, Jaidev revealed the emotional conversation that took place over the phone between him and Yash after the release of the film. Jaidev shared that when he contacted Yash amid the lukewarm response at the box office and negative reviews from all quarters, the actor tried his best to hide his heartbreak, but the deep pain hidden in his voice clearly reflected how much this failure was hurting him.
According to Jaydev Mohan, he could not meet Yash in person face to face due to his busy post-release work schedule, but the two had a long conversation over the telephone. When Jaidev expressed concern over the poor response the film was getting, Yash controlled himself like a true artist and a mature person and said, “Brother, don’t take it to heart, whatever was supposed to happen has already happened.” Yash further said that we had prepared this cinematic journey with complete honesty, dedication and putting our heart and soul, but ultimately this decision rests in the hands of the public. The film has now come out in front of the audience and is running in theatres, so nothing is left in our hands and we cannot change anything now. If the audience doesn’t like the story or our style, then we have to accept the fact and there is no point in troubling ourselves by thinking too much about it.
Jaidev further told during the conversation that even though Yash was trying to show himself very calm and strong with words, the heaviness and pain in his voice could be clearly heard. It is extremely painful for any actor to see such a result after dedicating four precious years of his career to a single character and story. After the historic global success of KGF 2, all eyes of the world were on Toxic. Yash had spent money and time like water on the pre-production, styling and action sequences of this film. When a project that was prepared with so much effort became a victim of trolling and negative word-of-mouth on social media due to poor screenplay and weak story, it was natural for Yash to be heartbroken.
According to trade analysts, Toxic had registered a historic start by crossing the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide on the basis of bumper advance booking on its first day. Seeing the initial figures, everyone felt that the rocking star would once again break all the old earning records. However, as soon as the initial reviews from the general audience came out after the first day, the film’s box office graph started falling rapidly. There was a huge decline in the number of viewers in theaters from the second day itself. Due to weak story and scattered direction, the film failed to recover in the coming days. As a result, even after several weeks of travel, Toxic’s lifetime worldwide gross collection could not even cross the Rs 350 crore mark, which proved to be a huge financial setback for this budget film.
Proving to be a flop at the box office has also had a direct impact on the film’s digital rights and OTT streaming. According to reports in the trade circles, due to weak hold in theatres, OTT platforms started demanding cuts in their fixed deals, due to which the film producers faced huge financial pressure. Not only this, the expectations that distributors and single screen theater owners had from this big budget action drama were completely dashed. Cinema experts believe that mere heavy action scenes and swag entry of the hero cannot make a film a blockbuster unless it has the foundation of emotional connect and a strong script.
Toxic may have proved to be a big setback in Yash’s golden film journey, but his fans need not be too disappointed. Yash is going to make a comeback on the big screen very soon with the most grand and ambitious project in the history of Indian cinema, ‘Ramayana Part-1’. In this epic mythological film being made under the direction of director Nitesh Tiwari, Yash Lankapati will be seen bringing alive the very powerful and multi-dimensional character of Ravana. This epic is all set for release in theaters across the world on 8th November 2026 on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. Film industry experts believe that this mythological and fiery avatar of Yash in Ramayana will once again take his career to new heights and will completely erase the bitterness of the failure of Toxic.
