Kolkata: The High Court has made a strong comment on the absconding case of Shahjahan Sheikh, accused of sexual harassment of Hindu women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal and has ordered Sheikh to surrender.
The High Court on Tuesday said that local Trinamool Congress leader and bully Shahjahan Shaikh not only cannot abscond like this, but the government cannot also support him.
The court made this comment while hearing the petition of BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari, who had reached there seeking permission to go to Sandeshkhali. The court said that we have looked into the complaints in which there are allegations of sexual harassment of women.
Chief Justice M.T.S. Sivagnanam said: We have seen complaints from women in the area who said their lands have also been encroached upon. Shahjahan Sheikh could not escape like this. The state government cannot support this. We ask him to surrender here. He cannot break the law.
Along with this, the bench said that if a person demands ransom from all the people then the government cannot support him. The government is the representative of the public, its job is to serve the public interest. The Chief Justice clearly said that at first sight it becomes clear that Shahjahan Sheikh used to torture the people; He is still anonymous. He doesn't know whether he is saved or not. But protecting it will not be easy.
Also, the court reprimanded the Mamata government regarding the ban on sending Sandeshkhali and said that you are only creating a tense atmosphere. You are troubling the local people without any reason. Like Corona, people are worried and in depression. Due to this, people have to stay at home.
Along with this, the court also said that saying 'who am I' does not make anyone an accused. But you can't let him get away like this.
In response to a question from the court, the lawyer of Mamta government said that the ban on going there has been imposed so that the common people do not face any problem. We hope that the situation will not worsen with the arrival of more leaders.
It is known that TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh has been missing for about a month. In January, the ED team had raided his residence. But Shahjahan's goons attacked that group. He used to sexually harass women and take over the land of many families in the village.
