Cancer causing element found in Pani Puri…! Ban on Pani Puri in the state?

Do you all know that recently the state has banned the use of artificial colour in making Cauliflower Manchuri and the reason for red colour in cooking. Meanwhile, a shocking report has come out that cancer causing elements are also present in the state's Pani Puri.

A recent inspection by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) found that almost 100% of the food collected across the state was not safe. It was found that 22 per cent of the Pani Puri samples did not successfully pass the safety standards.

These samples of Pani Puri were collected from around 79 places in the state. Of these, 41 were found to contain artificial colours and cancer-causing chemicals, making it an unsafe food.

The other 18 samples were of very poor quality and the department deemed them unsafe for consumption. Cancer-causing chemicals like Brilliant Blue, Sunset Yellow and Tartrazine were reportedly found in these samples.

Pani Puri is a popular snack and many complaints have been heard about this food. Samples were also tested from roadside shops and hotels. But it is reported that most of it is good for consumption. But it is known that 22 percent of the sample is not suitable for consumption.

A wide range of chemicals have been found in this unfit sample, and from simple stomach upset to cardiovascular diseases, these artificial colours can cause a number of health problems. HCG can also cause autoimmune diseases or kidney damage, said Dr Vishal Rao, dean of the Centre for Academic Research at the cancer centre.

Earlier, officials had inspected more than 700 shops in more than 200 places in the state. Some shops were also found selling expired products.

According to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), no colour should be added to food unless permitted under the Food Safety and Quality (Quality of Food Products and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011. Rhodamine B is excluded under this regulation. Its use was banned as the chemical was found to be carcinogenic.

It was told that the chemicals used for artificial color in the manufacture of cabbage and cotton candy are causing many diseases including cancer. It was suggested that Rhodamine B chemical should not be used for this, now the news is that many such chemicals have been found in Pani Puri as well. At present, high level meetings are likely to be held after this report comes. It is being told that a big decision is likely to be taken regarding Pani Puri in the presence of health department officials and ministers.
