The love of students from all over the world, including Indians, for Canada is gradually decreasing. Ever since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government has imposed limits on issuing study permits, students are enrolling in other countries instead of Canada. Due to which Canada is also losing thousands of crores of rupees. Justin Trudeau's government announced in January that it was temporarily suspending study visas for international students.
According to the country’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller, only 3,64,000 study permits will be issued in 2024 due to the restriction on issuing study visas. This number is 35% less than in 2023. “The number of new study permit applications processed by the Canadian government in the second quarter of 2024 fell by 54 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2023.”
How many people can get Canada study visa in 2024?
The report estimates that the number of applications processed will fall by 39 per cent in 2024. If the situation remains the same, around 2,30,000 new study permits will be issued in the second half of 2024. “If the above study permit process estimates hold true and the study permit approval rate remains at 51%, it is estimated that in 2024, only 231,000 new study permits will be issued,” according to a report. “4,36,000 new study permits were issued in 2023. If around 2,31,000 new study permits are issued this year, it will be 47% less than last year.”
Students leave Canada and go to these countries
The report says that the trend of students is now moving away from Canada. The new rules are creating confusion. Students moving away from Canada are now turning to America, Germany, Italy and other countries for studies. Australia and Britain are also becoming more popular among students.
How sad would it be if international students didn’t come to Canada?
Foreign students spend a total of 37.3 billion Canadian dollars (about Rs 2.4 lakh crore) on tuition fees, accommodation and food in Canada. This figure is of 2022. Not only this, but foreign students also contribute to small jobs like working in restaurants and delivery in the country. If the number of foreign students in Canada decreases, it will have a direct impact on the economy there. The number of foreign students has halved compared to last year. In such a situation, Canada will have to suffer a loss of at least Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
