Government of Canada: The Canadian government has come up with a new rule for international students coming from other countries including India. In which changes have been planned regarding the post-secondary study permit. In this, the government is planning to stop the study permit of international students if their admission is not properly monitored. According to the rules, colleges and universities will have to provide information to the immigration department about the attendance of students and compliance with the study permit conditions.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the initiative aims to prevent backdoor entry into Canada using study permits for work as well as protect international students from fraud. Under this rule, international students will now be able to work outside the college campus only for 24 hours a week. However, earlier international students were allowed to work outside the campus for more than 20 hours to earn a livelihood due to rising inflation.

Colleges and universities will report to the Immigration Department

Also, according to the new rules of the Canadian government, colleges and universities have to report to the immigration department whether the student is attending school and following all the conditions of the study permit.

As per the gazetted plan of the Canadian government, whenever a student changes schools he or she must apply for a new study permit and this must be done before starting a new program. Also, the aim of this change is to ensure that only genuine colleges and universities are eligible for a study permit.

Action will be taken against those who do not comply. While, the designated educational institutions will have 10 days to accept a student and 60 days to submit a compliance report on the enrollment status of each student.

In that case, the Canadian government estimates that these changes will cost about $87 million over 10 years, including implementation costs for the government, designated educational institutions and study permit holders. Those who want to change schools have until July 29 to make the change.
