Pitru Paksha (Shraddha) 2024 Pind Daan: Shradh and Pind Daan have great importance in Hinduism. Pitru Paksha (Pitru Paksha 2024) is observed from the full moon of Bhadrapada month to the new moon of Ashwin month. In the year 2024, Pitru Paksha will start from 17 September 2024 and end on 2 October 2024.

Pinddaan and Shradh are mostly performed by men. Then this question comes in people's mind whether women can also perform Shradh. So know whether women can perform Shradh or not…

Pitru Paksha 2024 – Pitru Paksha 2024

  • According to religious beliefs, these 16 days of Pitru Paksha are very special for the worship of ancestors, peace of mind and blessings, these are called Shradh.
  • According to the scriptures, all our ancestors come to the earth during Shraddha.
  • By offering Pinddaan during Pitru Paksha, the souls of the ancestors get satisfied.
  • Many rules are followed during Pitru Paksha, so that the blessings of the ancestors remain on the family.
  • During Shraadh, people put more emphasis on worship-related activities. This brings blessings of parents and happiness and prosperity in life.
  • During this period, offering tarpan to ancestors liberates one from ancestral debt.

Women can also perform Shradh and Pinddaan

  • According to religious scriptures, women of the house where there is no son can perform Pinddaan and Shraddha rituals. This is clearly mentioned in Garuda Purana.
  • According to Garuda Purana, if a person does not have a son and has a daughter, then he offers Pind and Shraddha to his ancestors.
  • It is believed that if girls perform Pind Daan and Shraddha with devotion towards their ancestors then the ancestors accept it and bless the girl.
  • Apart from the girl, the daughter-in-law or wife can also perform Pinddaan and Shraddha.

Mother Sita had donated the body of King Dasharath

It is mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana that during the exile, Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Mother Sita had arrived during the Pitru Paksha. Meanwhile, when Lord Shri Ram and Lakshmana went to get the material for Shraddha, they got late. During this time, Mother Sita met King Dasharatha. King Dasharatha requested Mother Sita to offer Pinda. After this, Mother Sita made a sand pind considering the Banyan tree, Ketaki flower and Falgu river as witnesses and donated it to King Dasharatha. King Dasharatha was pleased with this Pind Daan of Mother Sita and blessed her.

Women should keep these things in mind while donating Pind

  • While performing Shraddha, women should wear white and yellow colored clothes.
  • According to religious beliefs, Shraddha should be performed only by married women.
  • While performing Tarpan, women should keep in mind that they cannot perform Tarpan by adding Kush, water and black sesame seeds.
  • If you do not remember the Shraddha date, then perform the Shraddha of elderly men and women on the Navami day and that of children on the Panchami day.
