Be it a businessman or an employee, people are often seen complaining about the government's tax system. Amidst complaints of high taxes, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that she wants the tax to be reduced to almost zero. But the country is facing challenges and there is a need to raise resources. This will help in spending more money on research and development. Being the Finance Minister, many times I have to answer people why our tax system is like this?
Appeal to scientists
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said at the 11th convocation held at IISER in Bhopal that why can't we reduce it (tax)? I wish I could make it zero. But the country's challenges are very serious and we have to overcome them. Meanwhile, the Finance Minister said that it is not possible to make the tax zero because money is needed to run the country. She appealed to the scientists to do more research on renewable energy and its storage. Which is very important for a fast-moving India and also to save the environment.
The money hasn't come from the Paris Agreement, he said.
Because developed countries have not fulfilled their repeated promises. Regarding this change, he said that a lot of money was promised to the world to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy but that money has not been received yet. India has fulfilled the promises made in the Paris Agreement with its own money. On this occasion, the Finance Minister described the country's current tax system as fair. He said that the government is investing heavily in scientific research.
He said that I want to have very learned people in front of me who are graduates, PhD holders who understand the challenges of the country. I take the example of renewable energy as one of those sustainable sources of energy for a developing country like India. Sitharaman also urged scientists to develop batteries for renewable energy and storage as the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy should be sustainable.
