Cameroon Football Federation appoints Martin Ndotoungou as interim coach of national men's team

Yaoundé, May 29 (HS). The Cameroon Football Federation announced on Tuesday that it has appointed Martin Mpile Ndotoungou as interim head coach of the national men's football team during an emergency meeting after several weeks of tension and crisis.

In a statement released on Tuesday night, the federation said it was sacking Belgian Marc Brys, who was appointed to lead the team in April, for “unacceptable behaviour” and refusal to cooperate with the federation.

The emergency meeting was held after federation president Samuel Eto’o and Bryce were seen exchanging harsh words in a video conference before the crisis meeting was due to begin on Tuesday morning at the federation headquarters in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde.

Cameroon football clubs have been mired in crisis since April, when the country’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouéla Kombi, appointed Bryce as the head coach of the national men’s football team.

The federation initially rejected the appointment, saying it was not involved in the appointment process, but in early May, the association confirmed Bryce as the new head coach but sacked some members of the technical staff appointed by the minister and replaced them with new ones. Cameroon has two crucial World Cup qualifiers scheduled against Cape Verde and Angola in June, but the deepening crisis could have a negative impact on the games, according to local football analysts.
