Calling wife 'second hand' on honeymoon proved costly for husband. Now the husband will have to pay a compensation of Rs 3 crore to the victim's wife. The husband will also pay a maintenance allowance of Rs 1.5 lakh per month to his aggrieved wife. Both of them were married in January 1994 in Mumbai. Later both of them went to America.

The matter first reached the trial court of Mumbai. Where the victim's wife has filed a complaint. The lower court has directed to pay compensation and maintenance allowance to the accused husband. The husband filed a review petition in the Bombay High Court, which was dismissed. Now the accused husband will have to follow the instructions of the court.

While giving the complaint, the victim had said that both of them were married in 1994. Both had gone to Nepal for honeymoon. During this time her husband called her 'second hand'. Actually, the victim's previous engagement was broken. The victim told that later both the husband and wife went to America. His marriage ceremony also took place in America. After a few days, the accused husband started beating the victim. His character began to be doubted and false allegations began to be made. Meanwhile, in 2005, both the husband and wife returned to Mumbai and started living in a shared house. In the year 2008, the wife went to her parents' house to live with her mother. The husband returned to America again in 2014.

Frustrated, the victim filed a complaint under the Domestic Violence Act in the Metropolitan Magistrate's court in 2017. The allegations made by the victim were confirmed in the court by her mother, brother and uncle. The court accepted that the victim was a victim of domestic violence. In January 2023, the court directed the accused husband to pay Rs 3 crore as compensation, find a house in Dadar, alternatively pay Rs 75 thousand for the house and Rs 1.5 lakh per month as maintenance allowance .

The accused husband had filed a revision petition in the High Court against this order of the lower court. Now the Bombay High Court has upheld the order of the trial court in which it had directed to pay compensation of Rs 3 crore and alimony of Rs 1.5 lakh to the victim's wife. High Court Justice Sharmila Deshmukh said in the order that this amount has been given as compensation to the woman not only for physical injuries but also for mental torture and emotional distress.
