After India, China, Pakistan, Nigeria, Congo, America will also increase its population at a rocket speed. By the year 2100, India's population of about 1.50 billion will be double the population of China of 63.3 crores.
These figures were presented in an estimate released by the United Nations on Thursday. In the year 2100, India and China will be followed by Pakistan, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and America. However, a UN report has estimated that India's population will reach 1.7 billion by 2061, which may decrease to 1.5 billion by the end of the century.
In 2100, Pakistan's population is projected to be 51.1 million, Nigeria's population 47.7 million, the Democratic Republic of Congo's population 43.1 million and the United States' population 42.1 million. The biennial World Population Projections report by the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs projects that the United States will be one of 62 countries in the world where a population explosion due to immigration will exceed the number of births and deaths by this period. The US population is currently 345 million.
According to the report, the current population of India is 1.451 billion. This figure is about 9 million more than the number considered two years ago. Census is conducted in India every ten years. But since no such process has been done yet, the population figures presented are more reliable estimates. It is worth noting that according to tradition, the census process was to be conducted in India in the year 2021. But this action has been postponed for an unspecified time. However, in the year 2021, the census process was postponed due to the Corona epidemic. But at present no specific reason has been given as to why the census is not being conducted.
Contrary to what demographic alarmists and scaremongers like to claim, India's modest population growth is not a sign of an imminent population explosion. While India is expected to become the world's most populous country during this century, the latest WPP projections show no major progress in India's sweeping demographic transition.
India's population will reach around 1.692 billion by 2054. It will peak at 1.701 billion in 2061, the report says. Interestingly, ageing China will lose more than half of its population in the next 75 years. The current median age of the Indian population is 28.4 years, while it is 39.6 years in China and 38.3 years in the US. By the year 2100, these numbers will rise to 47.8 years, 60.7 years and 45.3 years respectively.
India's main demographic concern is not to curb population growth. But it is to effectively use the limited resources to benefit every citizen of the country. According to WPP estimates, India's working population will peak by 2049.
