The seat was vacant after his father and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy was elected to the Lok Sabha. BJP has fielded Bharat Bommai, son of former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai from Shigaon. He will face Congress candidate Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan.
