Between 2022 and 2050, life expectancy is likely to improve for both men and women globally, according to a global study report published in the Lancet journal. During this period, there is an indication of improvement of five years in the life of men and four years in the life of women. Since countries with currently low life expectancies are likely to see the greatest improvements, overall life expectancy globally will improve. Global life expectancy is likely to improve with improvements in public health facilities to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases, COVID-19, many infectious diseases, and maternal and child diseases or malnutrition. As overall life expectancy increases, life expectancy disparities across different regions of the world will also reduce.
Life expectancy will increase most in the sub-Saharan region
Moore said health disparities between the highest and lowest income areas would persist, but the life expectancy gap would narrow. The largest improvements in life expectancy are likely to occur in sub-Saharan Africa. Researchers say the risk of non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity and blood pressure related diseases has increased. The next generation will be most affected by such diseases.
How much will life expectancy increase in India?
