The court has once again rejected the bail application of Jet Airways supervisor Naresh Goyal, who has been in jail for the last several years for the crime of black laundering. The court said that the health reports show that Goyal's health will improve after getting bail and he is already receiving the best possible treatment in the hospital of his choice. Special judge MG Deshpande for cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act had on April 10 rejected the bail plea of the 74-year-old businessman.
ED had made the arrest in September 2023
The petition was filed on the grounds that Goyal was suffering from several life-threatening diseases. Earlier, the court had rejected Goyal's interim bail in February 2024, when Goyal had sought bail on the grounds that he was suffering from cancer. However, the court allowed him to get treatment in the hospital of his choice. Goyal filed another plea for bail stating that his health was deteriorating due to hospitalisation. Goyal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in September 2023. He is accused of misusing a loan of Rs 538.62 crore given by Canara Bank to Jet Airways (now defunct).
This is how Naresh Goyal built his business
In 1967, Naresh Goyal came to Delhi from Patiala in Punjab at the age of 18. At that time his family was going through a serious financial crisis. Had to struggle even for two square meals a day. Goyal wanted to bring his family out of this poverty. He worked in a travel agency run by his maternal uncle in Connaught Place. Here Goyal used to get a salary of Rs 300 per month. Here he learned a lot about travel agency and gradually started moving forward in this industry. Exactly four years later, in 1973, Naresh Goyal opened his own travel agency. He named it Jet Air. People used to make fun of him for naming his travel agency after an airline company. Goyal used to say that one day he would definitely open his own airline company.
Jet Airways was closed in the year 2019
After many years of hard work, the day finally came when he opened his own airline company. In the year 1991, Naresh Goyal started Jet Airways as an air taxi. After acquiring Air Sahara in 2007, Jet Airways was the country's largest airline by 2010. But later the company's problems started increasing. He had to step down from his post in March 2019 and Jet Airways also closed down in the same year.
