New Delhi, August 13 (HS). The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has started a new department for standardization on issues related to environment and ecology. It has been named Environment and Ecology Department (EED).
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said in a statement issued on Tuesday that BIS has started a new department for standardization on issues related to environment and ecology. Its aim is to set global standards in sustainability and environmental standardization.
According to the ministry, the national standards body BIS organised a workshop a day earlier to mark the establishment of the department, in which more than 100 experts from across the country participated. BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari said that the new department will meet all the ecological requirements and prepare standards for both India and the world.
