Bundesliga: Leverkusen beats Cologne, strengthens its position at the top of the table

Berlin, March 4 (Hindustan Reporter) Bayern Munich's draw benefited Bayer Leverkusen, who moved 10 points clear of the top of the table after beating 10-man Cologne 2-0 at the end of the Bundesliga round of 24 on Sunday.

Leverkusen maintained its hold on the match right from the beginning. Cologne suffered a major blow in the 14th minute of the match when Jan Thielmann received a straight red card. After this Cologne had to play with 10 players.

Just before halftime, in the 37th minute of the match, Jeremy Frimpong scored a brilliant goal to give Leverkusen a 1-0 lead. Leverkusen went into halftime with a 1–0 lead.

Cologne started the second half brightly and had a chance to score in the 51st minute when Sargis Adamyan attempted a header, but the ball went wide of the goal post.

However, in the 73rd minute of the match, Alex Grimaldo increased Leverkusen's lead to 2-0 by scoring a goal and in the end this score proved to be decisive. With this, Leverkusen registered its 34th consecutive win.

In another match on Sunday, Maximilian Baer's first-half brace helped Hoffenheim beat stubborn Werder Bremen 2-1.
