Berlin, September 23 (HS). Bayer Leverkusen reached second place in the Bundesliga on Sunday by defeating Wolfsburg 4-3. Leverkusen started brilliantly, but fell behind 1-0 after just five minutes when defender Nordy Mukiele put Mohamed Amour's dangerous header into his own goal post. However, in the 14th minute of the match, Florian Wirtz scored a goal and equalised the score for Leverkusen at 1-1.

Leverkusen hit back moments later when Jonathan Tah scored a header from Alejandro Grimaldo's pass to make it 2-1. However, Leverkusen's lead didn't last long as Sebastian Bornau equalised the score at 2-2 with a header in the 37th minute. Mathias Svanberg then scored from 18 metres to give Wolfsburg a 3-2 lead before halftime.

After play resumed, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso responded by bringing on Piero Hincapie, who made an immediate impact, scoring in the fourth minute of the second half to level the score at 3–3. Victor Boniface then scored in extra time to put Leverkusen ahead 4–3 and that was the deciding score at the final whistle.

In other matches on Sunday, Stuttgart beat Borussia Dortmund 5-1 thanks to two goals from Denis Undav, while newly promoted St Pauli played a goalless draw with Leipzig.
